Breaking Through the Walls (BTTW) is the culmination of Patricia A. Brown’s lifetime of service to others. From foster parenting to community volunteering, and caregiving, Ms. Brown has been a true blessing to the Champaign County, Illinois community.
Through her volunteer work with various area charities, Ms. Brown was drawn to the plight of the unsheltered, but also inspired by the work of numerous organizations that counsel, mentor, and transition many off the streets and back into the workplace.
What she often noticed was a need for basic household goods like towels, linens, cookware, coats and clothes for work. Ms. Brown viewed these as some of the last barriers or walls that those who had made it so far, needed to be broken through to lead empowered lives.
For years Ms. Brown reached into her own pocket. Now with BTTW and a board of directors dedicated to finding resources for the mission she began many decades ago, Breaking Through The Walls has become a State of Illinois recognized Not for Profit, and 501(C) 3 pending organization.
Its mission is simple. To provide material household resources for the unsheltered and other organizations who service those transitioning from the streets.
This mission will target retail overstock and returns, focusing on new and unboxed items that many retailers currently struggle to warehouse or otherwise liquidate.
Items not appropriate for BTTW needs will be placed up for eCommerce charitable auction to help fund operating costs or donated to another charitable organization within its affiliate network. Monetary donations will assist with operating costs and the search for a warehouse facility from which to receive, sort, and send out items donated, as well as, educational and training scholarships.
Through this mission model, BTTW seeks to establish a pipeline partnership with retailers to reduce landfill waste while providing material goods to charitable organizations within Illinois and beyond. We ask for your help to empower our mission.
